Company Background

ObjectVideo™, located in Reston, Virginia, is the leading developer of advanced video analysis software and systems for physical security applications. The firm was founded in 1998 by a group of DARPA research scientists whose expertise in an evolving area of artificial intelligence known as applied computer vision provided the nucleus around which the company was formed. ObjectVideo™ software incorporates state-of-the-art applied computer vision technology that enables computers to 'see' and understand surveillance video. Through the use of computer vision technology, real-time video content analysis is possible and a quick and accurate assessment of potential high-threat situations can be performed.

Innovative Technology Developed

With the proliferation of visual sensors in the Battlespace and in Homeland Defense applications a new problem is on the rise: there are not enough sets of eyes to watch and monitor all the sensors. In many security applications, such as video surveillance, the video content is extremely tedious to monitor effectively.

By shifting the video monitoring task from human eyes to a computer, the security force gains a security guard who never tires, never gets distracted, and never takes a lunch break. The human security or military analyst is freed to respond to the, now automated, security alerts in near real-time and initiate the appropriate action(s).

This DoD funded innovation has the potential to revolutionize force and critical-asset protection domestically and abroad.

DoD Implementation and Commercialization Summary

ObjectVideo™ has productized this DoD funded innovation and has completed several pilot projects and sales deployments with great success. The system that we have developed has thus far proven to be a significant enhancement to the security of critical assets in the petrochemical, transportation, and force protection sectors. ObjectVideo™ anticipates completing field trials in late 2002 and rolling out between twelve and twenty-two medium to large sized system deployments in 2003.
